Aklan Gives Tribute To The Late Jaime Cardinal Sin

Spanning thru the course of history from World War II to the present is the life of Aklan’s favorite son, the late Jaime Cardinal Sin. He was given recognition at the Museo It Akean (Aklan Museum) with a program and the opening of an exhibit dubbed: A Tribute to Jaime Cardinal Sin at 6:00 PM, 31 August 2006. Several NGOs, artists, local historians, priests and government officials led by Vice Governor Ronquillo C. Tolentino.
The exhibit paints a poignant picture of Cardinal Sin’s life, how he became a part of our nation’s history as he witnessed the devastation of World War II, the independence of the Philippines from the Americans, the rise of communist insurgency, the tyranny of Marcos, the People Power and the continuing push for economic progress.
The exhibit features old photographs of the Cardinal dating from his boyhood, religious vestments, and other implements.

Viva Aklan Eco-Tourism Video Launches

Showcasing Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo’s innovative brainchild, Manggad it Kalibo (Wealth of Kalibo) featuring the multi-awarded Bakhawan Eco-Park, Ati Atihan Village and PiƱa Village, and Mayor Jed Tirol’s conceptual Bugna it Tangalan (Blessing of Tangalan) featuring the Jawili Falls, Campo Verde and the Marine Sanctuary, CIDA-Pearl 2 in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Aklan, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Aklan Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) Council are portrayed in the Viva Aklan Eco-Tourism video documentary on August 24, 2006 at the CAP Conference Building along with the presentation of the SMED workshop output.
The video documentary demonstrates how the eco-tourism ventures were created particularly the Manggad it Kalibo as it is rare to find a highly urbanized capital town that has its own Eco-Tourism destination including account of members of the community who are benefited in the ventures.
DTI Reg. Director Dominic Abad led the signing of the covenant of commitment for the proponent. He promised to fully support the Provincial SMED Council in recognition of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) as an important engine of growth to alleviate poverty and provide alternate jobs.

Kalantiaw Toastmasters Club Holds Speechfest

In their attempting to discover young Aklanons with the gift of gab and showing the importance of public speaking, the Kalantiaw Toastmasters Club held a one day Speechfest on August 31, 2006 at the Social Hall of the Capt. Gil Mijares in Kalibo at 8:30 AM Kalibo. Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo was represented by Hon. Greg Malapad who delivered inspirational message.
The Speechfest aimed to seek out talented Kalibonhons and hone them in the art of speech making and public speaking.
The Kalantiao Toastmasters Club is an NGO that was chartered on March 10, 2005. It is named after Datu Bendahara Kalantiaw, the law giver and chieftain of Aklan. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
